Robert Tillman Elected to Cree Board of Directors



Cree, Inc. announces that Robert Tillman, former Lowe's Companies chairman and chief executive officer, was elected to the Company's Board of Directors, and to the Board's Compensation Committee, effective October 26, 2010.
"We welcome Bob to our Board of Directors," said Chuck Swoboda, Cree chairman and chief executive officer. "He brings substantial leadership experience as a CEO in a major publicly traded company in the retail distribution industry. His knowledge, operational expertise and insight into consumer products should be very valuable to our board as we work to accelerate the LED Lighting Revolution."
Tillman, 67, served as chairman of Lowe's Companies, Inc. from 1998 to 2005, as its president and chief executive officer from 1996 to 2005, and as a member of its Board of Directors from 1994 to 2005. After his retirement from Lowe's in 2005, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of Bank of America Corporation from 2005 to 2009 and also as a member of its Executive and Asset Quality Committees.
Cree is leading the LED lighting revolution and setting the stage to obsolete the incandescent light bulb through the use of energy-efficient, environmentally friendly LED lighting. Cree is a market-leading innovator of lighting-class LEDs, LED lighting, and semiconductor solutions for wireless and power applications.

Acuity Brands Helps Begin Revitalization of City of Rock Falls



Acuity Brands announced its participation in a pilot outdoor LED lighting and revitalization project in Rock Falls, Illinois using its Holophane brand of luminaires and innovative SiteLink pole system. The Holophane brand has been a recognized leader in high-quality and lowest total cost of ownership lighting solutions for commercial, industrial, and outdoor applications for more than 110 years.
Working with Paul A. Jakubczak, PE, Electric Director of the City of Rock Falls Electric Utility, Acuity Brands' Holophane unit will bring the lighting of the Rock Falls City Hall area into the 21st century. The chosen state-of-the-art LED lighting and innovative Holophane branded SiteLink pole system has many unique features and functions beyond simply suspending a streetlight in the air.
Focusing on the City Hall parking lot for now, the City of Rock Falls' overall objective is to eventually revitalize the entire downtown area. The revitalization project will be highlighted by new LED lighting, which will increase energy efficiency, improve overall quality of light and reduce overall maintenance costs.
The main goals of the lighting component of the revitalization efforts are to obtain high vertical illumination with no less than .5 footcandles of horizontal illuminance and cutoff optics, while utilizing "green technology." The City selected Holophane Esplanade 150-watt Utility Tear Drop LED luminaires mounted on SiteLink SL5 poles and North Yorkshire style decorative pole bases to satisfy its lighting and aesthetics criteria. As part of a comprehensive lighting solution, the City also will be using photocontrols from Acuity Brands' DTL controls brand. DTL photocontrols save energy and reduce utility replacement costs, offering an integrated intelligent outdoor lighting and controls solution that saves energy by providing both excellent reliability and accurate light sensing.

Digital Lumens CEO Tom Pincince to Present at J.P. Morgan LED General Lighting Symposium



Digital Lumens, developer of the industry's first Intelligent Lighting System, announced that President and CEO Tom Pincince will join executives from General Electric, Veeco, Rubicon and others to present at the first annual J.P. Morgan LED General Lighting Symposium, to be held Thursday, September 2 in New York. The goal of the Symposium is to share information among all the companies involved with the use of LEDs for general lighting applications. Designed for large warehouses and industrial facilities, the Digital Lumens Intelligent Lighting System integrates LEDs, sensors, networking and software into a single solution that leverages system-wide intelligence to reduce customers' energy costs by up to 90 percent.
Last week, Digital Lumens announced that Maines Paper & Food Service, Inc., a $3 billion broadline foodservice distributor, has deployed the company's Intelligent Lighting System in its 460,000 square foot headquarters in Conklin, New York. With Digital Lumens' technology, Maines will reduce its lighting-related energy use by 87 percent, and Maines expects to save 1,726,108 kWh per year (more than enough electricity to power 200 homes for a year) and 1,240 metric tons of CO2.
